Joy Russell and her newlywed husband Ben take a raft trip in Canyon Fires.

Joy was born in Vietnam, but left a few weeks old, adopted out of an orphanage and brought to the US just days before Saigon fell. She grew up in Tucson, where her parents still live.

As an oriental in the southwest, she found escape in online games, especially Dragonslayer, where her handle is Portia.

She works as a bookkeeper for Southwest Municipal Insurance and lives in Tempe. She met Ben through Dragonslayer. They were slow to reveal their reallife and were surprised to discover they live in the same apartment complex. They subsequently discovered the complex is just across the street from Jon and Tanisha Chladek.

One of Ben and Joy's first dates together was to a Dayna Berkshire and Sandy Beach concert. He won a Canyon Tours trip through a raffle, which with a trip to Las Vegas prompted their wedding.
