Marsha Ashtenfelter, along with her family, were summer visitors to Spearfish Lake, from Camden. She and Dan Evachevski began going out in the summer of 1987 as did her sister Amy and Josh.

She and Dan went off to college together and later married. At the time of Facing the Storm their marriage is on the rocks and maybe headed for divorce, an eventuality that would not sadden Dan's siblings or his best friend Josh.
