Summary

Danny spends some of the long drive back to thinking of the Ashtenfelter girls before turning to speculation of catching up with all he's missed. Some of the changes are obvious as he drives down Central Avenue to his mother's workplace, which isn't where it used to be! He finds it by accident on the route to his father's appliance store.

Entering the Record-Herald, Mike introduces him to the staff, including Sally, the only other staff member Danny remembers. Danny asks about the prominent portrait and all are surprised he hadn't heard about Brenda or the Carter sisters, after all, Danny has visited multiple times in the last 8 years.

Danny's mother finally returns and welcomes him. She sends him off to his dad and hopes for an early evening to welcome him back.
