Norman Niven was married to Irene and had two children, a boy Phil and daughter Judith and lived in Arvada Center. He worked at the Willow Lake Farm Center in the office as a salesman and occasionally delivered fertilizer by truck. There was an auto accident that killed their son Phil and partially paralyzed Judy. Unlike his wife, Norm encourages his daughter to do as much as she thinks she is able to do.
Some time after Judy marries Ken Sorensen, Norm retired and left his wife to retreat into a life as a hermit in a hunter's cabin on the far side of Turtle Hill, outside of Spearfish Lake. We encounter Norm in 1993, when Judy gets a dogsled ride with Josh Archer to visit her dad.RM09
